Customer Spotlight – The Lobster

Drive due West on historic Route 66 until it meets the Pacific Ocean, and you will find a Santa Monica landmark called The Lobster. Reopened, expanded and reinvented twenty years ago this month, The Lobster is a modern, glass-walled building on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific. It was originally opened in 1923, then later became a local favorite “seafood shack” for three decades after dishwasher-turned-owner, Mateo Castillo took the helm in 1950.

Today, The Lobster is an internationally recognized seafood and fine dining restaurant with a seasonal menu designed by celebrity chef, Govind Armstrong. As the name suggests, The Lobster is famous for its beautifully prepared Maine and California Spiny Lobster, and one of its most popular dishes is the Lobster Roll. The extensive fresh seafood menu includes oysters, caviar, crab, shrimp and fish.

Celebrating its 20-year anniversary this month, The Lobster has become so much more than a traditional seafood restaurant. Catches from local divers off the coast of Santa Barbara and fresh local fare from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market provide inspiration for Chef Govind to create his unique, seasonally inspired dishes like Dover sole meunière with fried potato and artichoke hash.

Operating like a family business, The Lobster is proud of the fact that twenty of the original employees are still there since day one of the reopening twenty years ago. The Lobster counts on California Linen to provide high quality linens to provide its guests an exceptional dining experience. The Lobster recommends California Linen Service saying, “California Linen has wonderful customer service. Not only prompt, but with a personal touch as well. When we call, they know exactly what we need. We never feel like just another account.”
